Freddie Jackson died October 5, his family confirmed in a statement reported by AP. His family remembered his generosity and the connection he shared with his fans.

His 1985 debut album, Rock Me Tonight, gave listeners “You Are My Lady” and “Rock Me Tonight (For Old Times Sake).” Both became No. 1 R&B hits, introducing a voice that would become a familiar presence on radio.

These are records worth returning to without rushing. On “You Are My Lady,” Jackson gives a direct declaration of love warmth and patience. “Rock Me Tonight” looks back on a connection that still matters. In both, his phrasing gives the melody room to carry the feeling.

Spend a few minutes with these recordings, whether they bring back a memory or introduce you to his music for the first time.
